Commentary: The Heavens Gate Cult - Late 1980’s

After browsing the Heavens Gate web site, GOOGLE
SEARCH RESULTS
it appears that these people were not a religious cult at all but rather the
were mostly simply folk who believed that they were aliens from outer space
who believed that they had to go home the way they did, by killing themselves
when the comet Hale Bopp passed by the earth in the late1980's. In the end they made a mess in someone else’s
home to wit: leaving behind their dead smelly corpses for their earthling
landlords and state authorities to clean-up.
Were they enlightened children of IAMM "God", doing His/Her work
and setting a good example via the Golden Rule "Do unto others as you
would have others do unto you". I doubt it.
Were they real aliens from out in space and does
it really matter?
Not really - we shall be known by our works, Revelation Chap. 22.
If they were real space aliens, were they dirty
filthy un-caring aliens who had no respect for other peoples property ie.
the landlord in who's rented house
they left their earth suits to be removed and cleaned up at great cost,
financially, morally and spiritually to everyone they left behind?
It would seem that they broke the 2 Rules of the
Church...
#1 Do not hurt yourself. #2 Do not hurt anyone
else. a.k.a. The Golden Rule.
The internet does not deserve a bad reputation
because of our Brothers and Sisters of Heaven's
Gate, especially in light of the fact that they came to be years ago, without
it. Is it their intention now to go on to pollute the entire Universe with
their garbage? Hopefully not.
It is of course one's
right to believe and act upon those beliefs as long as one hurts no-one else.
"If one jumps off a building, please do not land on someone
else!" It is just too bad about the mess, although, hope does spring
eternal and perhaps we shall all get it right one day and stop polluting and
killing mother earth and thus ourselves and stop leaving our mess behind for
God's children to clean up! Oh
well!
